About Enphase Energy

The world's leading
microinverter company

Enphase Energy was founded in California in 2006 and launched the world’s first commercially successful microinverter in 2008. The idea was straightforward but transformative: instead of one central inverter managing all solar panels on a roof, each panel gets its own dedicated microinverter that converts DC to AC right at the point of generation.

That architecture change turned out to matter enormously. When one panel is shaded or underperforming, the others keep working at full capacity. The result is measurably more energy from the same roof, panel-level monitoring that shows exactly what each panel is doing, and a distributed system with no single point of failure.

The IQ8 — Enphase’s eighth-generation microinverter — introduced grid-forming capability: the first microinverter that can keep your home running on sunlight alone during a grid outage, even without a battery. Combined with the IQ Battery, IQ Gateway and IQ EV Charger, Enphase now offers a complete home energy ecosystem managed from a single app.

Enphase IQ8 Series

Microinverters — How they work & why they matter

A microinverter is a small device that mounts underneath each individual solar panel and converts the DC electricity generated by that panel into AC electricity your home can use. The key difference from a string inverter is that every panel operates entirely independently.

Shade, dirt or a fault on one panel has no effect on any other panel in the system

Every panel is individually optimised at its own maximum power point at all times

The IQ8 is the world's first grid-forming microinverter — it can sustain basic loads during a daylight grid outage, with or without a battery

Panel-level production data is visible in real time in the Enphase App — per panel, not just the total

25-year standard warranty — the longest in the inverter industry

Enphase IQ Battery 5P

Battery Storage — Store solar, use it when you need it

The Enphase IQ Battery stores the surplus energy your solar panels generate during the day so you can use it in the evening, overnight, or during a power outage. Multiple batteries can be combined to increase capacity as your needs grow.

5.0 kWh usable capacity per unit — stack multiples for larger storage

Faster charging than previous IQ Battery generations — the 5P charges up to 3.84 kW continuously

Automatic grid outage detection and switchover in under 200 milliseconds

The same microinverter architecture used in the panels — a proven and reliable design

Managed alongside panels and EV charger in a single Enphase App

Enphase IQ EV Charger

EV Charging — Powered by your solar, not the grid

The Enphase IQ EV Charger is the only EV charger that integrates natively with the Enphase microinverter and battery ecosystem. It prioritises charging from your own solar energy first — and only draws from the grid when solar generation is insufficient.

Up to 11.5 kW — charges most EVs from near-empty overnight

Solar-first charging mode automatically maximises self-consumption

Visible in the same Enphase App as your panels and battery — one dashboard for everything

Schedule charging for off-peak grid tariffs when solar isn't available

Compatible with all EVs using a standard J1772 or Type 2 connector

Enphase IQ System Controller 3

IQ System Controller 3 & Enlighten — Control, backup & monitoring in one

The IQ System Controller 3 is Enphase’s third-generation grid interconnection and backup management device. It sits between the grid, your solar panels and your IQ Batteries — managing the flow of energy and enabling automatic whole-home backup during grid outages. All performance data flows through it to the Enlighten cloud monitoring platform.

Automatic switchover to backup mode in under 200 milliseconds — most devices don't notice the transition

Whole-home backup capability when paired with IQ Battery 5P units

Feeds live data to Enphase Enlighten — panel-level production, consumption, battery state and grid import all visible in real time

Storm Guard feature pre-charges the battery automatically before a forecast weather event

Remote diagnostic access for installers and distributors via Enlighten Manager

Over-the-air firmware updates keep the system current without any site visit

Why Enphase

Not all solar systems
perform the same way

01

One inverter per panel

A string inverter ties all your panels together — if one underperforms, they all do. Enphase microinverters work independently, so shade or soiling on one panel has zero impact on the rest.

02

Keeps going during outages

Paired with an IQ Battery, an Enphase system automatically switches to backup mode during a grid outage. In Cyprus, where outages do happen, that’s a practical benefit — not just a spec sheet feature.

03

Full visibility via the app

The Enphase App shows panel-level production, battery state, consumption, and grid import in real time. Most solar systems give you one number. Enphase gives you the whole picture.

04

25-year warranty as standard

That figure reflects the durability of the design — fewer components, less heat, longer lifespan than conventional central inverters. Not a marketing claim.

05

Expand it whenever you want

Start with the panels you need now, add battery storage later, add an EV charger after that. Enphase is fully modular — every addition integrates cleanly without redesigning anything.

06

Works on complex roofs

Multiple orientations, partial shading, split-level roofs — Enphase handles configurations that would be impractical with a string inverter. A real advantage for many properties across Cyprus.

FAQ’s

Most asked questions
about Enphase products

About Enphase & How It Works

What is Enphase and how does it work?

Enphase Energy is the world’s leading microinverter company, founded in California in 2006. Instead of a single central inverter managing all your solar panels, Enphase installs one small microinverter under each individual panel. Each microinverter converts DC electricity to AC independently — so every panel operates at its own maximum regardless of what the others are doing. The IQ System Controller 3 manages grid interaction and backup switching, while the Enlighten cloud platform and Enphase App give you real-time data on every panel from anywhere.

Is Enphase better than a string inverter?

For most homes and commercial roofs, yes — particularly where there is any shading, multiple roof orientations, or a desire for panel-level monitoring. String inverters are simpler and cheaper upfront, but they have a single point of failure and any underperforming panel reduces the output of the entire string. Enphase microinverters produce more energy over time, especially on shaded or complex roofs, and carry a 25-year warranty versus the typical 10–12 years for string inverters. For a large, unshaded, flat roof facing one direction, string inverters can be more cost-effective — we’ll always give you an honest answer based on your specific situation

Can Enphase work without a battery?
Yes — a standard Enphase IQ8 microinverter system works perfectly without a battery. You generate solar power during the day and export what you don’t use to the grid. The IQ8 also has a unique feature called Sunlight Backup: during a daylight grid outage, the system can provide a limited amount of backup power directly from sunlight — without a battery. It’s a unique capability no other microinverter offers. Adding an IQ Battery later is straightforward if your needs change.

What is the difference between Enphase IQ7 and IQ8?

The IQ8 is Enphase’s eighth-generation microinverter and the current production model we supply. The key advance over the IQ7 is grid-forming capability — the IQ8 can operate independently from the grid and provide Sunlight Backup during a daylight outage without a battery. The IQ8 also has improved power output compatibility with modern high-wattage panels. IQ7 and IQ8 systems are not cross-compatible — a system must use one generation throughout.

Batteries & Backup Power

Does the Enphase IQ Battery work during a power cut?

Yes. When an IQ Battery is paired with IQ8 microinverters and the IQ System Controller 3, your home automatically switches to backup power during a grid outage — typically in under 200 milliseconds, fast enough that most devices don’t even notice the transition. You run on stored battery energy, and the system continues charging the battery from solar during daylight hours if the outage persists.

How many Enphase batteries do I need?

Each IQ Battery 5P stores 5.0 kWh of usable energy. A typical Cypriot household uses between 10–20 kWh per day. If your goal is to cover evening and overnight consumption from solar stored during the day, 2–3 batteries (10–15 kWh) is a good starting point. If you want whole-home backup through extended outages, 3–4 units gives more margin. The right answer depends on your daily usage profile, which we assess during a site survey. Up to 4 batteries can be combined in a single system.

Can I add a battery to my existing Enphase system later?
Yes — if you have IQ8 microinverters already installed, adding an IQ Battery is a relatively clean retrofit. The battery integrates directly with the existing microinverters without replacing them. You will need an IQ System Controller 3 added if you want automatic whole-home backup capability during grid outages. Contact us +35799420443 and we can advise on exactly what’s needed for your specific system.

How long will an Enphase battery last during a power cut?

It depends entirely on how much you’re consuming and how much solar you’re generating. One IQ Battery 5P at full charge (5 kWh) could power typical essential loads — fridge, lights, phone charging, router — for around 6–10 hours overnight. During the day, if the sun is out, the solar panels keep charging the battery while it powers the home, extending the backup duration significantly. Two or three batteries proportionally extend that time.

Pricing & Purchasing in Cyprus

Where can I buy Enphase products in Cyprus and Greece?

CGP Solar (cgpsolar.eu) is an authorised Enphase distributor and installer serving Cyprus — Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and Famagusta — and throughout Greece, including Athens, Thessaloniki and the Greek Islands. We supply the full Enphase product range to trade, and offer complete Enphase energy system installations for homeowners and businesses through our own installation teams.

How much do Enphase microinverters cost?

Enphase IQ8 microinverter pricing depends on the specific model, quantity, and current availability. For up-to-date pricing for Cyprus, check our shop page or contact CGP Solar directly — we’ll give you accurate current pricing for the quantities you need, whether that’s a single residential system or a larger project order.

Is Enphase available with a warranty in Cyprus?
Yes — if you have IQ8 microinverters already installed, adding an IQ Battery is a relatively clean retrofit. The battery integrates directly with the existing microinverters without replacing them. You will need an IQ System Controller 3 added if you want automatic whole-home backup capability during grid outages. Contact us +35799420443 and we can advise on exactly what’s needed for your specific system.

Technical & Compatibility

What solar panels are compatible with Enphase microinverters?

Enphase IQ8 microinverters are compatible with virtually all commercial solar panels. The IQ8 series covers panels from roughly 235W to 460W+ depending on the specific IQ8 model. Because each microinverter connects to a single panel, you can mix panel brands or add newer panels later without any compatibility issues — a significant practical advantage over string inverter systems.

Does Enphase require an internet connection to work?

No. Your Enphase system generates, stores and uses solar energy regardless of whether it’s connected to the internet. An internet connection is needed for the IQ System Controller 3 to upload data to the Enlighten cloud and for you to view live monitoring in the app remotely. The system stores up to one year of performance data locally — so if internet is unavailable for a period, the data isn’t lost and syncs when reconnected. Backup functionality also works without internet access.
