DC solar well pumps connect directly to solar panels through an MPPT controller. No inverter, no battery, no grid connection. The pump runs whenever the sun produces enough power — usually from about 8 AM to 5 PM in Cyprus summer, less in winter. Because there are fewer components, DC systems cost less upfront, have longer service lives, and rarely need attention.
DC pumps only work in daylight. This is almost never a real limitation because the entire point of a solar well pump is to fill a storage tank during the day, then gravity-feed water from the tank to wherever it’s needed — house, garden, drip irrigation, livestock troughs — twenty-four hours a day.

AC/DC hybrid solar well pumps accept both DC solar input (typically 90–430V from the panels) and AC mains input (90–300V from the EAC grid or a generator). During daylight they run on solar, saving on your EAC bill. When the sun’s not out — night, heavy overcast, extended winter cloud — they switch automatically to grid or generator without any manual intervention.
Hybrid pumps cost more upfront and are marginally more complex to install (they need a wired AC connection in addition to the panels), but they eliminate the storage-tank requirement for applications where water demand can’t wait for sunrise.
